Application for Permission to Purchase or Acquire Real Property

A Permit to Acquire Property is a requirement for non-Bahamians WHEN:

  • the property is undeveloped land with two or more adjoining acres
  • the intended use is not as an owner-occupied property
  • it is in a company name and is intended for commercial/rental purposes
  • the property is being purchased by more than one person who have different last names and are not married
  • the Purchaser already owns property in the Bahamas.
  • the Purchaser has previously owned property in The Bahamas (even if he/she does not currently own property in The Bahamas)

Please consult with your attorney as each matter is unique and should be evaluated based on its own set of facts.

Note: Non-Bahamians who are permanent residents of the Bahamas do not require a permit to purchase property.
